Government Affairs

The federal government is the largest funder of cancer research through the National Cancer Institute (NCI), a part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). While the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network continues to provide private funding for biomedical research, we must also strongly advocate for increased federal funding for pancreatic cancer.

Although pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer death, only 2% of the NCI’s $5 billion annual budget is spent on researching the disease.

Because Congress controls NCI funding, it is important for elected officials to hear from their constituents about the urgent need for pancreatic cancer research funding. Our Government Affairs & Advocacy office in Washington, DC coordinates these advocacy efforts.
